Rather than worry, hosting overnight guests doesn’t have to be complicated so long as you maximize your space. If you’re unsure how to host guests in your small home, keep reading for a few key tips that will make holiday entertaining a breeze.   ### Keep Everything Clean If you live in a small home, it’s very important to keep things clean. While many of us do clean up before entertaining, it’s more critical to keep things organized so you have enough space. If you’re someone who likes having appliances on the kitchen counter or decorations on the coffee table, clear off those spaces this holiday season. You can use that extra space to lay out food for your guests or prepare meals. Clutter will only make the space feel smaller and cause you and your guests to feel cramped. ### Have Storage Spaces With a smaller house, it’s important to have smart storage spaces around your home. Things like chests, ottomans, and bar carts are great ways to store things for your guests, or even yourself. If you’re letting someone stay overnight, rather than trying to remember where you stored extra blankets and sheets, you can keep everything in one place. They can store their luggage inside a chest or ottoman so during the day their things aren’t scattered throughout your home. It keeps things handy but won’t create clutter. ### Have One of Everything If you don’t have a guest room, it’s best to be prepared. Keep an air mattress handy so you can host overnight guests in your living room once the festivities are over. Have extra chairs and a folding table stored somewhere, so you can extend the dining room to sit all of your guests. Your small space won’t feel cramped so long as you’re prepared to have a number of people over. Things like spare toothbrushes, extra blankets, and water bottles are great things to have around for planned, or unplanned, overnight guests. #### If you’re want to learn more about optimal hosting over the holidays, read our blog post about the best [house plans for entertaining](https://blog.nccustommodulars.com/house-plans-for-entertaining).
