“I want to build a house. But where do I start?” It’s a question we hear all the time, and it makes sense. Whether it’s your first home or your next new home, there’s plenty to consider before you build, from your budget to choosing a location, purchasing land, and more. Don’t worry. We’ve selected some of our best resources to help guide you through the process, step by step!
Determining Your Budget
You’ve already made the decision to build instead of buy, and that’s a great first step! This helps determine what will need to be in your budget. But don’t worry, building a house is often more affordable than you might think.
If settling on a budget is stressing you out, start more broadly by outlining your goals. What are the must-haves? What’s negotiable?
Your budget may evolve over time, and that’s OK. It will most likely become more detailed as you move throughout the process, meet with your bank and apply for a loan, and compare prices for contractors.
The best advice? Leaving space in your budget early on means you won’t be surprised (or unprepared) for unexpected costs later!
Land and Location
You may already own the land where you want to build your home. Or, you might be looking for the best location. Sometimes it makes sense to buy and demolish a property if the land is ideal. Just be sure to factor this into your budget!
Sometimes buying land will be done early on in the process, especially if you want to secure it from other interested buyers. Other times, it may come a little bit later, after you’ve selected a floor plan or consulted with your building company. At Carolina Custom Homes, we’re always happy to help you purchase the land that’s right for you and your home.

Finding the Right Builder
The best part of building your house is that you won’t be the one building it. Isn’t that a relief? Now all you have to do is find the right builders.
How Do You Want Your Home Built?
We’re not talking about style (just yet). Instead, what’s your timeline? How would you like to be quoted on costs? And what materials do you want to use for construction?
It’s ok if you’re not sure. Your building company can help you make an informed decision. At Carolina Custom Homes, we specialize in modular home construction, which saves you time and money when compared with other methods.
